Christmas trees are synonymous with the holidays. Yet, there’s a reason fake trees have become more popular across the Greater Toronto Area in recent years – evergreen trees can make a real mess. Shedding pine needles and sticky sap can be a pain to clean up and there’s a high chance tree sap will drip on your floor or carpet this holiday season. When that does happen, don’t fret. We’ve put together this quick guide on how to remove tree sap from your floor and carpet! 

How to Remove Tree Sap from Your Floor, Carpet, or Area Rug 

Step 1: Clear the area as best possible. Put gifts to the side and pick away any pine needles or branches.

Step 2: Grab an ice cube from the freezer and rub it over the sticky area for two to three minutes. Allow the sap to harden so you can scrape it away with a dull knife or credit card.

Step 3: For wood floors, grab an oil based soap or home floor cleaning product. We recommend Maison Apothecare’s Lemon Aide floor cleaner because it’s safe for pets and made of all natural essential oils. Dab the stained area with a clean cloth and scrub the stain. For carpeted areas or rugs, mix a solution of one tablespoon of dish soap with one cup of hot water. Apply the solution to the affected area with a toothbrush and blot as needed. Vacuum as normal to suck up any sap particles.
