In our house, we have one secret recipe that’s heavily guarded and passed down from one generation to the next – it’s our grandma’s cranberry sauce. Cranberry sauce is a true treat at Christmas and every family’s recipe is unique. Whether yours is sweet, sour, or spicy, cranberry sauce spills can be treated with the same cleaning agents. Here’s how to remove cranberry sauce stains from your tablecloth.

How to Remove Cranberry Sauce from Your Tablecloth 

First, grab a clean cloth or paper towel and blot the stain with cool water. You can also flush the stain under cold running water.

Next, mix together ½ teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent (Tide), one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of water. Soak a clean washcloth in the solution you’ve created and dab the stained area. Then let the solution soak on the stain for 10 to 15 minutes. If the stain hasn’t lifted after 15 minutes you can sponge the area with rubbing alcohol.

Before you take the next step and wash your tablecloth, read its care label for instructions. Dry clean only items should always be taken to a professional dry cleaner. And what if your tablecloth is missing its care label? Try to identify the fabric as best possible. Extra large, large, silk or high-end tablecloths from stores like Toronto’s own Au Lit Linens should always be dry cleaned.

Washing

Wash your tablecloth with hot water. Once the cycle is finished, inspect your tablecloth to see if the stain has been removed. If it’s still there, run it for another rinse cycle. 

Drying

Dry your table cloth as per the garment care label.
