With Pride Month 2022 coming to an end, our team at If Clothes Could Talk wants to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community and its fashion icons. These individuals are often the talk of the red carpet and, in some cases, spark global fashion movements!

1.Kristen Stewart

This Twilight and ‘Spencer’ actor recently opened up about their experience as a gender-fluid person in Hollywood. Stewart has been recognized for her ‘elegant approach to punk,’ which includes rocking anything from pantsuits to ball-gowns on the runway. Off the red carpet, Stewart can be seen sporting her go-to white tee, jeans, and a leather jacket. The long-time Chanel ambassador and face of Chanel makeup, Kristen has cemented herself as a fashion icon.

2.Freddie Mercury

The former Queen frontman was one of the first performers to embrace a theatrical style on stage, embracing studded jewellery and bold colors on stage. He used his style as a form of artistic expression, often getting inspiration from other art forms, even collaborating with the Royal Ballet on the styling in the “Want to Break Free’ music video. His most iconic look? The white tee with blue jeans and studded armbands he wore to Live Aid in 1985 when raising money for a disease that later took his life. Freddie’s iconic style will inspire future generations to come.

3.Jonathan Van Ness

Jonathan Van Ness quickly captured the hearts of fans everywhere when Queer Eye re-launched in 2018. Tan may be the show’s fashion expert, but the Emmy-award winning hair-stylist has become known for his flamboyant looks on and off the red carpet. From capes to strapless dresses, Jonathan’s style is imbued with sparkle and flare. Most importantly, he dresses to express himself. While he released a collection of signature hair care products with Sephora last month, we’re hoping he adds apparel to the collection too!

4.Laverne Cox

Fans fell in love with Laverne Cox in her breakthrough role as Sophie Burset in Netflix’s ‘Orange Is the New Black.’ Since the show’s debut, Cox has graced magazine covers , red carpets, and made Time’s 100 Most Influential People List! Today, Laverne is both a fashion icon in the trans and sis community, working with several leading fashion brands, including being the face of Beyonce’s leisure line Ivy Park. Laverne was the inspiration for Barbie’s first trans doll. Now how many people can say that?

5.Marlene Dietrich

You don’t need to look too far to find 2SLGBTQ+ fashion icons in today’s fashion landscape, and that’s partially because there were brave people like Marlene Dietrich who paved the way for people to embrace their true selves. Marlene Dietrich was an openly bisexual woman who acted in films during the 1930s-1940s. She was known for questioning gender in her roles, pushing boundaries at the time, wearing a tuxedo, and kissing a woman in the film “Morocco” in the 1960s. She often wore dresses and tuxedos and looked fabulous in any outfit. She passed away in Paris, France in 1991, after a long life in the film industry.

6.Elliot Paige

The Canadian star rose to fame with roles in the recent X-Men series and now stars as Vayna Hargreeves in the Umbrella Academy. Elliot’s recognized for his signature red carpet style that usually includes a signature suit or tux. Page made heads turn with a recent red carpet footwear choice, dubbed ‘Balenciaga Goth Crocs,’ these crocs included a platform heel and metal toe-cap. Who says comfort can’t be fashionable?

7.Janelle Monae

This American Singer-Songwriter recently opened up about their gender identity, revealing they are non-binary. Monae uses fashion as a medium to express themself and has become synonymous with sticking to the colours black, white, and red with their outfit choices. Born in Kansas, Missouri, they started as a pop artist and have since branched out into acting, starring in Hidden Figures and Get Out. Monae is
