On Dundas Street West, Gibson's
Cleaners has been a neighbourhood fixture for almost
35 years. People trust Gibson's not only for their
exceptional fabric care services, but also for
their interest and involvement in the community
they serve.
Founded in 1929 by Joseph Gibson, a master dyer, Gibson's began as a Textile
Converting and Dye House Company. This company is still very active, but
now operates as a separate corporate entity.
Thomas Hopkins purchased Gibson's Cleaners in 1969 after working as General
Manager for five years.
In 1978, Gibson's diversified into the Uniform Rental Business which has
grown to include 65% of Gibson's total sales volume. Together with their
employees expertise, Gibson's provides their customers with exceptional
service and quality.
Always innovative when it came to better meeting their customers needs,
in March of 1981 Gibson's opened Toronto’s first Car Hop location.
With in-car service, complementary newspapers, the car-hop service has
proven to be one of their most popular customer service improvements. Since
then, some of their many customer service innovations have included VIP
Service, a Customer Loyalty Program with customer appreciation days and
a points program and much more.
Since 1989, Rob McConnell has brought his business acumen to Gibson's and
since 1994 has overseen both the uniform and retail operations, with the
advertising, promotional and staff training expertise of his wife Nancy.
Gibson's is a long-standing member of the Easter Canadian Launderers Association,
the Ontario Fabricare Association, the International Fabricare Institute
and the International Dry Cleaners Congress. In 1997 Tom Hopkins, their
CEO, was named Dry Cleaner of the Year by the International Dry Cleaners
Congress. The company was presented with the Etobicoke Chamber of Commerce's
1998 Business Excellence Award for Community Service for their Salvation
Army Clothing Drive. |
